Obituary for John Louck Boice

Millerton, John Louck Boice, 78, a longtime Millerton resident, died peacefully on July 8, 2016 at his home in Millerton. Jack worked for Taconic Telephone Company for over thirty five years and retired as a supervisor. He began his career with Taconic as a lineman and cable splicer. Following his retirement from Taconic in 1997 he worked as a land surveyor for Clark Engineering based in New Lebanon, NY, for seven years.

Born April 22, 1938 in Hudson, NY, he was the son of the late Guy and Edna Louck Boice. On August 23, 1959 in St. Patrick’s Church, Millerton, he married Patricia McGhee. Mrs. Boice survives in Millerton.

Jack was a life member of the Millerton American Legion Post 178 and enjoyed raising beef cattle on his property in Millerton. For many years Jack remained very active in the 4-H Community in Dutchess County and regularly showed beef cattle throughout the area. He also enjoyed tractor pulling in his spare time. Jack’s infectious laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife of nearly fifty eight years, Jack is survived by three sons and one daughter; John L. Boice, Jr. (Zander) of Craryville, NY, Richard Boice (Carolyn) of Ghent, NY, Gerald Boice (Amy) of Ancram, NY and Shelley Boice (Donald) of Millerton; five grandchildren, Olivia Murphy, Crawford Boice, Nadeane Boice, Leslie Boice and Meaghan Todd; four great grandchildren, Connor and Mason Murphy, Sophia Boice and Colby Michael; a sister in law, Mary Boice of Ancram and seven nieces and nephews and many friends. Jack was predeceased by his brother Roger Boice of Ancram and his sister Marjorie Boothby of Ancram.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. The Millerton Legion Post 178 will conduct services at 7pm during visiting hours. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors at Irondale Cemetery, Route 22, Millerton.
