Obituary for James Bennett "Bounce" Covert Sr.

Millerton – James Bennett “Bounce” Covert, Sr., 78, a short time Millerton resident, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. “Bounce” as he was more affectionately known had a lengthy career in the casino and gambling industry which lasted from the early 1960’s through the early 2000’s. He began his career in Las Vegas, Nevada as a casino dealer and as he was promoted up the ladder over the course of forty years, he worked in Athens, Greece, Biloxi, Mississippi and finished his career as Assistant Casino Manager at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Born July 12, 1938 in Big Springs, Texas, he was the son of the late Henry and Theo (Fuller) Covert. Bounce attended and graduated from high school and received an Associate’s Degree in Business. Bounce served his country for four years in the United States Army in Washington D.C. under President Kennedy serving in Presidential Airlift Group for Air Force One and Marine One. He was honorably discharged following his service to our nation. In 1966 in Las Vegas, NV, he married Gloria A. Flood. Mrs. Covert survives in Millerton. Bounce enjoyed spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by his beloved wife and his loving family.

Survivors include his son, Ed Covert and his wife Kay of Millerton, his daughter in law Jeanette Covert of Cherry Hill, NJ, a brother Robert Fuller and his wife Natha of Texas, a sister Janel Barnhill of Texas, his grandchildren; Fawnna Hentish, Robert Covert, Josephine Covert, Colleen Covert and Laurin Covert, his step grandchildren; LeNita Van der Kruik and Carina Lucero-Harless, great grandchildren; Zoe, Mia and Asher Hentish, step great grandchildren; Tealin, Amelia, Madeline and Charlotte Van der Kruik, three nieces; Kathy Awtry Yarbrough, Debbie Mason and Mishell Juarez all of Texas and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son James B. Covert, Jr., a grandson Clark Covert and a niece Melissa Fuller Cahill.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 11am-1pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. All other services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or the family requests that a tree be planted in memory of Bounce.
