Obituary for Mary E. Lyman (MSN, RN)

Mary E. Lyman, MSN, RN, 67, a forty seven year resident of Millerton, NY died peacefully at her home in Millerton with her loving family at her side. Mary retired from nursing at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie in 2012 where she had worked for over twenty years. Mary was also an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Nursing at Dutchess Community College for fifteen years.

Born February 20, 1950 in Yonkers, NY she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Bencizenga) Saunders. Mary attended and graduated from Webutuck High School, Class of 1968. She received her nursing degree from SUNY New Paltz and Masters in Nursing from State University at New Paltz. Mary was a long time parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Millerton and more recently at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia.

On August 8, 1970 in Sheffield, MA she married John Joseph Lyman, Jr., together sharing nearly forty two years of marriage. Mr. Lyman died May 30, 2012. Mary is survived by her daughter Danielle Bailey and her husband Albert of Millerton; two sons, Erick Lyman and his wife Kim of Gallatin, NY and John Lyman of Millerton; four grandchildren, Jacob and Skyler Lyman and Emma and A.J. Bailey; her brother, Tom Saunders and his wife Denise of Dickinson Center, NY and her sister, Anne Honour and her husband Al of Amenia, NY and several other extended family members and many friends.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from4-7pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Rd. Amenia, NY. Rev. Kent Wilson will officiate. Burial will take place at Amenia Island Cemetery, Route 343 in Amenia, NY. In lieu of Mary’s dedication to the advancement of the field of nursing, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mary Lyman Memorial Scholarship Fund, Dutchess Community College Foundation, 53 Pendell Rd.
