Obituary for Kathryn M. "Kay" Garzetta

Millerton - Kathryn “Kay” Garzetta, 100, a twenty-year resident, formerly of Staten Island passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY following a brief illness. She was a resident of The Pines, Poughkeepsie. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Felice and Marie (Funicili) DeFelice. She was the last of thirteen siblings.

Kathryn was married to Salvatore Garzetta on April 20, 1946, they shared a loving marriage for sixty-four years. Sal passed away in 2010. Relocating to Staten Island after her marriage. She was a homemaker, and then worked for the former R&Z Television Company, and later for Dr. Neu and Dr. Boyd Legate, O.D., in New Dorp. During that time, she raised three boys, Gary, Robert and Joseph.

Always one to stay busy, Kathryn was active in bowling leagues early in her life and later with her employment and her sons' varied interests through the years. She was a life member of the American Legion Dalessio Post, 1310 in Staten Island, N.Y. and the Millerton Post, 178, in Millerton, N.Y. Her culinary talent was known and appreciated by all who came to her home. No one ever left hungry.

In her retirement years, Kathryn and Salvatore wintered in Naples, Florida, keeping company with their siblings. It was a joy to see them all together and always remarkably busy. She volunteered at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Staten Island, Naples Community Hospital in Florida, and St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, dancing and spending time with her loving family. Her kind spirit and loving ways will be deeply missed by all.

Kay is survived by her three children Gary Garzetta and his wife Angela, Robert Garzetta and his wife Lisa, and Joseph Garzetta and his wife Evelyn, as well as six grandchildren, Gary, Sarah, Dana, Anthony, Inez and Eric, and eight great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Kathryn was predeceased by her siblings, Andrew, Antoinette, Clara, Rose, Dominick, Alfred, Carmela, Anne, Joseph, Felice, John and Anthony.

A special thank you to the PCU staff at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, their care and concern is a quality which the family appreciated during a difficult time. Also thank you to The Pines, Poughkeepsie for their compassionate care of our Mother over the last five years.

We consider it an honor to have a centenarian Mother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Road,Amenia, NY.
