Wassaic – George Joseph Sanders, Jr., 56, a longtime area resident died Thursday, October 21, 2021 in Hartford, CT following a lengthy illness. Mr. Sanders owned and operated Sanders Excavation and was also a professional mason at the time of his death.

Born May 21, 1965 in Mastic Beach, Long Island, NY he was the son of the late George Joseph Sanders, Sr. and Mary Elise (Vassil) Smith. George attended schools locally and graduated in 1983.

George is survived by his daughter, Brittany Sanders and her companion Drew Clapper; his grandson, Logan Clapper; his step father, Donald L. Smith of Sharon, CT (formerly of Dover Plains); two uncles, Philip Vassil of Jersey City, NJ and George Vassil of Shirley, NY.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 5-7pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546.
