Obituary for Frank Newell Beckwith

Salisbury – Frank Newell Beckwith, 97, a Salisbury, CT resident formerly a twenty eight year resident of Brooklyn, NY died peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Noble Horizons with his loving family at his side. Mr. Beckwith was a retired attorney who had a private practice for many years in addition to working for the DIA and most recently for the United States Federal Government in the Coast Guard Division.

Born August 16, 1919 in Bronx, NY he was the son of the late Hon. Julius Hammond and Mary McFadden Beckwith. He was a graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and Manhattan College. He received his Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from Cornell Law School in Ithaca, NY. Mr. Beckwith served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. On July 4, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York he married Doris Ruth Surridge. Mrs. Beckwith passed away August 22, 1985. Mr. Beckwith enjoyed reading the NY Times and was an avid cook. He also gave many hours of his time and expertise to various causes throughout his life and career. He will be greatly missed by all.

Mr. Beckwith is survived by his devoted daughters, Eliza Beckwith of Brooklyn, NY and Kim Walker and her husband John of Kent, CT; three grandchildren, John Walker, Rebecca Walker-Stern and Dana Howard; five great grandchildren, Imogen Stern, Akeley Stern, Emma Howard, Lucy Howard and James Howard.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contribution may be made to the Nature Conservancy at Nature.org.
