Obituary for Eleanor Louise Hosier

Hudson – Eleanor Louise Hosier, 87, a twenty year resident of Hudson, NY and a lifelong area resident, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hosier worked at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY as a laundress prior to devoting most of her time to her husband and fourteen children as a wife, mother and homemaker.

Born February 22, 1930 in the Bronx, NY she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Dorothy (Castle) Hills. She attended Bronx, NY public schools and was married in Millerton, NY to Virgil Hosier, Sr., in 1966. Mr. Hosier died in 1978. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, going to casinos and watching the New York Giants on television. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, James Scism( Deborah) of Poughkeepsie, Charles Scism of Poughkeepsie, Sterling Scism( LeAnn) of Saugerties, Fred Scism(Wendy) of Saugerties, Donna Medwick (Brian Liberty) of Glenham, Harold Scism (Rose) of Florida, Polly Unser (John) of Saratoga, Eleanor Marie Hosier of Florida, Virgil Hosier, Jr. of Hudson, William (Marissa) Hosier of Craryville, Jennie Van de Bogart of Hollowville and Edgar Hosier of Craryville; thirty grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was predeceased by her son, Martin Scism and her stepdaughter Pauline.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 11-1pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. Funeral services will take place at 1pm at the funeral home. Pastor William Mayhew will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring at Spencer’s Corners Cemetery in Millerton, NY.
