Obituary for Carl John Dobrwado

Carl John Dobrwado, Sr., 83, a sixty year resident of Millerton, NY died peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie surrounded by his loving family. Carl was a Journeyman with Local # 669 Sprinkler Fitters based in Columbia, MD for 41 years, retiring in 1997, he received his 60 year plaque from the Union on June 15, 2016. He later worked for a private estate in Millbrook, NY for 17 years before retiring again in 2013.

Born August 11, 1934 in Blackstone, MA he was the son of the late Peter and Mary V. (Kowal) Dobrwado. Carl attended Woonsocket, RI schools and served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in December of 1954. On November 24, 1957 in the Millerton Presbyterian Church he married Elizabeth J. “Betty” Miller. Carl and Betty recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home in Millerton. Carl was a life member of the Millerton Legion Post # 178 and enjoyed fishing in Rhode Island and Cape Cod with his son Carl, Jr. and spending time together watching football on Sundays. He also enjoyed spending lots of time with his dear friends Ken and Georgeanna Duncan at their farm on Coleman Station road in Millerton. He also served as Manager for the Little League and Babe Ruth teams in Millerton for many years. Carl will be deeply missed by his loving family and his many friends.

Survivors include his beloved wife Betty; his daughter, Julia E. Demidowicz of Millerton and his son, Carl John Dobrwado, Jr. and his wife Susana of Millbrook, NY; a grandson, Eric P. Demidowicz of North Carolina; two sisters, Wanda Fandino of Palm City, FL and Jane Sojka of Westerly, RI and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by his brother, Edward Dobrwado and his sister Shirley Dobrwado Kusiak.

Private family visitation took place on Sunday, December 17, 2017at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. A prayer service and burial will take place in the spring at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 S. County Trail, Exeter, RI 02822. Dates and times will be announced on the funeral home website in the near future.
