Millerton – Beverly Ann Gordon, 75, a lifelong area resident died peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at her home in Millerton, NY surrounded by her loving daughters and family members. Affectionately known as “G-Ma and Mama Chop” to her grandchildren and many friends, Bev worked as a bookkeeper and receptionist for many local businesses throughout her career. She worked for Astor Head Start in Millerton for over ten years, Sharon Pediatrics for nearly fifteen years, for Dr. Kristie Schmidt and Dr. Ronald Hayes both of Millerton, for the Valentine Funeral Home in Millerton and for the Maplebrook School in Amenia, NY. In her spare time she served as a Village of Millerton Trustee for five years and was Deputy Mayor of the Village of Millerton from 2001-2003.

Born November 10, 1942 in Sharon, CT she was the daughter of the late Allard and Catherine (Whitlock) Hosier. Bev was a graduate of Webutuck High School, Class of 1960 and furthered her education following high school at Krissler Business Institute in Poughkeepsie, NY. On August 18, 1962 in Millerton she married George A. Gordon III, a marriage that lasted nearly 40 years. Mr. Gordon passed away on March 20, 2002. In addition to volunteering civically, Bev was also a lifelong member of the Millerton Presbyterian Church and the Millerton Legion Auxiliary Post 178. She was an avid softball player and pitcher for MacArthur’s Smokehouse in Millerton where she was given the catchy name and was known by many as “Mama Chop”. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a great laugh to go with it. Bev enjoyed spending time with her loving family and many friends and will be dearly missed by all.

Bev is survived by four daughters; Edith “Deede” Gordon-Taylor of Canaan, CT, Catherine Gordon of Millerton, Patricia Hayes and her husband Ron of Millerton and Georgina G. Chamberlain and her husband Bob of Copake; her sister, Barbara Cuddeback and her brother in law Dan of Millerton; eight grandchildren, Theresa, Kira, Rory and Samuel Taylor, Andrew and Amy Hayes and Alexander and Lucas Chamberlain; her brother in law Bob and sister in law Betti Gordon of Troy, PA, brother in law Bill and sister in law Ginger Germer of Lyons, CO and sister in law Jeanne Gordon-Lutz of Columbia, SC; her best friends, Donna and Tom Morrison of Pleasant Valley, NY and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11am at the Millerton Presbyterian Church, 58 Main Street, Millerton. Reverends Zora F. Cheatham and Paul Rhebergen will officiate. Private burial will take place at Irondale Cemetery in Millerton.
