Obituary for Alice Winchester Muzynski

Rhinebeck- Alice Winchester Muzynski, 93, a four-year resident of Rhinebeck, formerly a long time resident of Millerton died peacefully on March 2, 2022 at The Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck, NY.
Born on March 31, 1928 in Sharon, CT she was the daughter of the late Louise (Barrett) Winchester and Milo Winchester. She graduated from Pine Plains High School in 1946 before attending the Krissler Business Institute in Poughkeepsie, NY. On June 10, 2000 she married Edward J. Muzynski in the Church of St. John in the Wilderness, Copake Falls, NY. Mr. Muzynski survives at home.

Over her 50 year working career Alice was a bank teller, secretary and receptionist at such local businesses as Salisbury Bank & Trust, Webutuck High School and Sharon Hospital. She loved telling people that she waited on the actor Richard Chamberlain (Dr. Kildare) while working at the bank. Sewing was an important part of her life. She made many clothes for her family as well as alterations for family and friends. She also did professional alterations and upholstery over the years.

Alice, also known as Grammie and Grandma Alice was well known for her love of counted cross stitch which she passed on to her daughters. She, Ed and her sister Jean would often spend an afternoon stitching on their cross stitch projects. Each Christmas a member of her family was surprised with a cross stitch stocking.
Alice and Ed enjoyed camping and attended several Elder Hostel programs across the US as well as vacations on her beloved Mt. Riga. In 2018, her children took Alice on her last trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC to celebrate her 90Th birthday.

In addition to her husband, Alice is survived by her sister Jean Kleinhomer Staatsburg, NY, her three children, Susan Perotti (Robert) Millerton, NY, George Beckwith (Lenice) Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Linda Rowland (Jess) Kingston, NY; five step children, Carolyn Hart (John) Mansfield, MA, Joan Muzynski-Dupree (Arthur) Stratford, CT, Amy Muzynski, Sykesville, MD, Elizabeth Means (Bruce), Camden, ME and Douglas McKenzie (Linda), Miami, FL; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two husbands, Roger Beckwith and William McKenzie, her brother, Milo Winchester, Jr., and brother-in-law William Kleinhomer.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY. A funeral service will take place at 1 pm at the funeral home. A private burial will take place in the spring at the South Amenia Cemetery in Amenia, NY.
